Guava leaves act similar to Catappa leaves in an aquarium.  When placed in an aquarium for a small amount of time they will cause biofilm to grow which adds natural restorative properties to the water.  They also release tannins into the water column which will help fight off bacterial infections. Guava leaves are especially good for shrimp because they help prevent Bacteria Vibrio, a known cause of many shrimp diseases.
